I have spent my life exploring two basic questions: What can we know? What should we do? In about one-third of the 50+ years of this quest, I have worked as a student or teacher in academic institutions, eventually obtaining a Dr. Phil. degree at the Freie Universität in Berlin and a J.D. degree from Georgetown University. For over 35 years, I have been a practicing lawyer, helping clients and others work out the right and the wrong of past conduct in the judicial system. I have served as an expert witness on professional ethics. I have taught college and graduate level courses in philosophy, theology, ethics, social ethics, and business ethics. In 2007, I founded Ethics By Design to assist small and medium organizations develop moral systems that help them comply with laws and social norms. And I’ve written books and articles on professional ethics, organizational ethics, moral systems, and the nature of morality.
Now, as the culmination of a lifetime of searching, I’m developing this site as a way to bring it all together and to stimulate others to share their thoughts as well.
